STANDARD PROOFREADING PRICES

Standard proofreading is strictly limited to correcting spelling and grammar.

7+ day turnaround
£8.00 per 1,000 words [up to 10k]
Example: proofreading an 8,000-word document costs £64.

£9.00 per 1,000 words [over 10k]
Example: proofreading a 12,000-word document costs £98.

3-6 day turnaround (max word count 30,000)
£10.00 per 1,000 words [up to 10k]
Example: proofreading an 8,000-word document costs £80.

£12.00 per 1,000 words [over 10k]
Example: proofreading a 12,000-word document costs £124.

STANDARD EDITING PRICES

Standard editing includes making more extensive corrections beyond spelling and grammar such as corrections to formatting, creating document headers, and ensuring page numbers correspond to the table of contents. It also includes reading through the document(s) and providing comments or making recommendations based on what the client requires. For instance, some clients request an ‘outside eye’ to read through a document and provide comments on structure and clarity of argument.

3-6 day turnaround (max word count 20,000)
£15.00 per 1,000 words
Example: editing a 12,000-word document costs £180.

ADVANCED EDITING AND INDEPENDENT RESEARCH PRICES

Advanced editing pertains to more detailed work such as rewriting sections of the document(s), reordering text and/or creating new sections (i.e. involved work which goes beyond providing comments or making recommendations). This price tier also includes work in which the client requires a combination of proofreading and editing (i.e. making corrections and making recommendations).

Independent research includes carrying out research projects for clients, which may be comprehensive in terms of planning, executing, and writing up research findings, or participating in specific aspects of research such as consulting on methodology or working alongside other researchers contracted by the client.

Both advanced editing work and independent research are typically subject to my day rate of £250, but this may vary from project to project depending on the complexity, duration, and turnaround time required. As such, I tend to provide bespoke quotes in consultation with clients after discussing their requirements, reviewing document(s), assessing the job, and agreeing a proposed timescale.
